Turkana Women Rep calls for title deeds law draft

As Posted on News24
The Turkana County women Rep Joyce Emanikor called upon the County Assembly on Thursday to draft out a law that provides title deeds to Lodwar Town plot owners in a bid to improve the living standards and business minds of the Turkana community in the town. The legislator enlightened that with title deeds, the Turkana land owners will be able to acquire loans from two operational banks in Lodwar town namely Equity and Co-operative banks. “People are building storeys with loans, while the Turkana community ignores business turning to pastoralism”, she said. Speaking during Lodwar town cleaning activity conducted by Akiyar-Kaapei Youth CBO, Emanikor urged the youths to invest more of their education knowledge on volunteer work, saying that resting and depending on pastoralism will not yield to job opportunities for them. “I will make sure every person who participated in the cleaning activity has acquired a certificate. Youths should invest in volunteer work, who knows, Tullow and other NGO’s might be impressed by your vigilance," she urged. Co-operative representative Paul Ekiteri added that the banks are ready to give loans to youth groups who have projects and initiative, but the turn out has been discouraging. "We really want to help the people business-wise, but they are ignorant. Only several community based organisations have approached us. It is time for Nga'turkana to think business", he said. Others present were Turkana Youth Rep Naomi Anyang and representatives of Deputy Governor Turkana County Peter Ekai Lokoel.
